’s Nachts, wanneer Gent tot rust komt, begint AVATAR te werken.
Het autonome vaartuig vaart tussen de overslaghub in de Voorhaven en de binnenstedelijke werven rond de Oude Dokken en Houtdok.
Daar levert het ladingen met bouwmaterialen en installatiemateriaal tot dicht bij de eindgebruiker — zonder vrachtwagens of lawaai.
Overdag vervult het een tweede rol: mobiele energiediensten leveren op en rond het water — van batterij-swap tot tijdelijke walstroom voor werven en evenementen.
Het resultaat: minder bestelwagens in de stad, minder uitstoot, minder vertraging, en een zichtbare stap richting slimme stedelijke logistiek via het water.

Transforming a conventional vessel into a fully electric, intelligent craft requires technical precision and collaboration. From 360° electric POD propulsion, HV battery systems and CAN/NMEA2000 integration to LiDAR, radar, cameras and AI-based control: each step moves a vessel closer to zero-emission, autonomous performance.
Our joint approach applies across multiple domains: urban and port logistics, inland and workboats, defence & patrol operations, and research or survey vessels... By combining hands-on engineering with RIC’s testing and living-lab infrastructure, we turn innovation into proven, operational results — technology that works reliably in the field, not just in concept.
